THE SENSEIBLE WEEK
The work done to master the self, the constant battle and struggle to attain righteousness
— The Senseible Way —
A Weekly Discipline of Body, Mind and Spirit
Balance • Moderation • Self-Mastery on the Straight Path
Introduction — The Moderate Path
The Senseible Week is a holistic weekly routine built on the Islamic principle of moderation — the balanced, middle path between extremes. It weaves together physical training, mental discipline, and spiritual practice into a single, sustainable rhythm of daily life. The aim is self-mastery: strengthening the body, sharpening the mind, and purifying the heart, so that all three serve the ultimate goal of attaining righteousness through sincere belief in and remembrance of Allah.
Each day of the week carries its own combination of physical exertion, mental cultivation, and spiritual devotion, with built-in rest to allow the body and mind to recover. Nothing is done to excess — even discipline itself is practiced moderately.

Physical Exercise
1. Calisthenics — 500 Push-ups & 500 Sit-ups
Performed four times a week: Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The 500 repetitions of each exercise are spread across five sessions in the day, keeping each session manageable and sustainable.

| Daily Total | 500 push-ups + 500 sit-ups | 1,000 reps combined |
2. Poomsae — Taekwondo Forms Practice
Practiced daily, six days a week (Saturday through Thursday), focusing on:
- Kicks — front, roundhouse, side and turning kicks for power and precision.
- Punches — straight and reverse punches to develop speed and correct form.
- Blocks — low, high and inward/outward blocks for defence and control.
- Stances — front, back and horse-riding stances to build stability and rootedness.
- Stretching & flexibility — daily mobility work to protect the joints and improve range of motion.
3. Tai Chi — Soft Internal Strength
Practiced three times a week — Sunday, Tuesday and Friday — as the soft, internal counterpart to the more forceful calisthenics and taekwondo training. Tai chi cultivates calm strength, balance, breath control and inner focus, allowing the body to recover while the mind stays engaged.
4. Weight Training — Dumbbells
Performed three times a week — Saturday, Monday and Wednesday — targeting:
- Forearms — grip and wrist strength.
- Biceps — arm-curling strength and definition.
- Shoulders — pressing and raising movements for stability and power.
- Chest — pressing and fly movements.
- Back — rows and pulling movements for posture and pulling strength.
5. Rest & Recovery
Friday is the full rest day — no intensive exercise. Friday, Sunday and Tuesday are also kept free of heavy calisthenics and weight training, allowing the body time to recover between the more demanding Saturday–Monday–Wednesday–Thursday cycle.
Spiritual & Mental Development
Physical and mental discipline are paramount to developing the spiritual side. Prayer, remembrance and reflection anchor the entire week, turning bodily effort into a form of worship and self-purification.
Daily Spiritual Practice
- Five daily prayers (Salah) — the five obligatory prayers observed at their fixed times each day.
- Qur’anic recitation — daily reading and reflection upon the Qur’an.
- Islamic thought & philosophy — study and contemplation of Islamic teachings alongside personal and professional development.
- Daily writing — writing every day on comedy, martial arts, Islam and everyday life, using writing as a tool for reflection and self-expression.
The Six Pillars of Faith (Iman)
- Belief in Allah.
- Belief in the Prophets and Messengers, upon them be peace.
- Belief in the Books revealed by Allah.
- Belief in the Day of Judgement.
- Belief in the Angels.
- Belief in Divine Decree — predestination, the good and the bad of it.
Acts of Worship & Compassion
- Feeding the poor and needy.
- Supporting orphans, widows and needy travellers.
- Giving Sadaqah (voluntary charity).
- Giving Zakat (obligatory almsgiving).
- Maintaining the five daily prayers as a constant anchor.
Virtues to Cultivate
- Patience (Sabr).
- Wisdom.
- Self-sufficiency.
- Abundant remembrance of Allah (Dhikr).
Together, these disciplines — the strength of calisthenics, the precision of taekwondo, the softness of tai chi, the power of weight training, and the constancy of prayer, recitation and reflection — form a single, unified path. The goal of this routine is not exertion for its own sake, but the mastery of the self, so as to attain righteousness and to establish a sound heart, one that is at peace and is accepted by Allah.
